Since the 1940s, G. F. Heim Söhne has primarily processed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). PMMA became known under the trade name Plexiglas, registered in 1928 by Otto Röhm. Acrylic glass, as PMMA is also known, is non-toxic, weather-resistant and lightweight. It has been produced industrially since 1933 and has become an integral part of our everyday lives. Due to its physiological harmlessness, it is also often used in medicine. Due to its ideal processing properties, the material is also very popular with designers. It is elastic, impact-resistant and easily malleable at temperatures of 100°C and above. It retains its shape when cooled. The material can be glued or welded, cut and engraved.
