Details

Baharat translates as “spice” and is a traditional spice blend from North Africa. It is an incredibly versatile spice blend: it goes well with meat, stews, couscous, falafel, grilled vegetables and tomato soups and sauces. The mixture gives dishes a wonderfully spicy oriental note and is traditionally fried briefly in butter before the other ingredients are added.

By the way: Baharat is mainly used in Syria, Israel, Lebanon and Jordan. However, it is also often found in Turkish cuisine and in Middle Eastern dishes. There is no original recipe, nor is it possible to date exactly when it was first used. Baharat behaves like an Indian curry: the composition and number of spices varies from region to region.

Ingredients: Paprika, cumin, stick pepper, black pepper, coriander seeds, cloves, Ceylon cinnamon, mint, cubeb pepper, cardamom
